The Practical Stuff

The most common questions and comments we hear when discussing a yoga program at work include the following...

What do I wear?

Do I need to be fit to do yoga?

I can't touch my toes...is that a problem?

What about my weight? Will that be a factor?

Is everybody bendy, or do they just look that way?

I have to work this afternoon..am I gonna need a shower?

I'm too old to do yoga, or...I'm simply too old for this.

I have no sense of balance. Most yoga poses are just too hard for me.

Starting something new can be intimidating , but it doesn't have to be. Not with Yoga @ Work.

Sit back, relax and don't worry. You don't need to be fit; you don't need to wear the latest in groovy

clothing; and 'balance' is a state of mind that we work on - you won't be the least coordinated

person there. We promise. What you can expect is some good laughs, a new way to deal with

stress, and an overall physical fitness level that can only get better the more you practice.

About the shower after yoga: we give you the yoga poses that help you stretch out, and become

limber. The poses are designed to work your muscles, but not so much that you break into a major

sweat! After all, we know you have to work ; and stressing about sweating isn't going to help

reduce your tension.

Please take a moment to read about what you should bring, and what you can expect from us.

  • we recommend you wear comfy, body-fitting (not tight) clothes, that can be tucked in, and do not restrict movement

  • no shoes on the mat please! (You can wear yogi-toes, or socks with non-slip bottoms, but bare feet are best )

  • bring a beach-size towel that covers at least half of the mat

  • bring a water bottle with 'easy-off' lid

  • please do not eat a big meal prior to your yoga class - best to come hungry or eat something light (fruit) just prior to class

  • no cell phones or pagers during your session please

  • come with a willingness to let it all go; breathe; and have some fun

  • we supply mats - feel free to bring your own if you prefer

  • we've got blocks

  • we've got straps

  • we've got lots of inspiration, and lots of laughs

  • we bring structured classes (both corporate and private can be tailored from 45 mins to 1.5 hours in length)

  • all our instructors have a willingness to learn along with our students

We want you to be comfy, and enjoy your yoga experience with us. We don't get into all that 'hokey yoga ohm' stuff .....unless you want to, in which case we are happy to :)

After completing your final pose - shavasana ('corpse pose') - we hope you will be able to take a few extra moments to savor the relaxed, tension-free feeling you have; and carry it with you for the rest of your day/evening.

Everyone comes to the mat with different abilities, and different strengths. Over time, you will see a difference in your body.

You will be more flexible.

You will be stronger.

You will see your confidence rise as you work your way through the program.

You will see your stress level decrease.

You will gain the knowledge necessary to keep your stress level down.
